Cabildo launches tender for Antigua Sports City works over €7 million
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has launched a tender for the construction of the Antigua Sports City, “a strategic action that will complete a key infrastructure for the municipality’s sporting development,” explained island president Lola García.
The island corporation will carry out the intervention, which is being tendered for more than €7 million with an execution period of 18 months from the start of works. “This represents a decisive step toward making a highly demanded infrastructure a reality in the municipality of Antigua,” García added. The president highlighted “the firm commitment of the island corporation to improve public facilities in all municipalities, in this case with a major sporting project that also contributes to the economic and social development of Fuerteventura.”
Project scope
The comprehensive project includes:
- Excavation and foundation works
- Construction of a new grandstand
- Multi‑sport areas, changing rooms, warehouses and auxiliary facilities
- An artificial‑grass football field
- An athletics track
Both facilities will be accredited by the Consejo Superior de Deportes, allowing the hosting of official national and international competitions.
“In addition to being primarily intended for the daily use of our athletes and clubs, this project aligns with the Sports Ministry’s clear commitment to grassroots sport, within the eSPORTura 25‑35 strategy,” said Luis González, Councillor for Contracting and Sports.
Institutional backing
Infrastructure Councillor Blas Acosta emphasized the progress of the project, which is part of the Island Cooperation Plan for Municipal Works and Services, enabling the execution of strategic infrastructures across all municipalities.
