Cabildo Launches
The Island Council of Fuerteventura has unveiled the inaugural edition of AgroFuer, a fair scheduled for September 5 and 6 in Tuineje. The event aims to boost the rural economy and bring local products closer to residents and visitors.
According to a statement from the council, the two‑day program will feature gastronomic activities, live music, a varied cultural offering, and traditional craft workshops led by island artisans.
The initiative seeks to reinforce the kilometer‑zero value and the distinctive Majorero culture as attractions for both tourists and locals. It is part of the “Fuerte por Naturaleza” program, promoted by the Tourism Department and funded by European Next Generation EU resources.
“AgroFuer represents much more than a fair; it is, above all, a space where kilometer‑zero products, crafts, and Majorero culture come together,” said Lola García, President of the Island Council of Fuerteventura.
“Tuineje will become a meeting point to show that Fuerteventura is far more than sun and beach. It is countryside, history, and living culture.”
Tourism Counselor Marlene Figueroa added, “Tourism increasingly seeks higher‑quality destinations. That quality must be conveyed through local products, gastronomy, and our culture.”
Tuineje’s mayor, Candelaria Umpiérrez, expressed gratitude for the municipality’s selection to host AgroFuer’s first edition and invited the public to take part in the fair.
Juan Jesús Rodríguez, President of the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce, emphasized, “This fair is important for the Chamber because the tourism sector drives the island’s economy, but it must also act as a catalyst for other sectors to energize them.”
The project is a joint effort between the Island Council of Fuerteventura and the Chamber of Commerce. The two entities signed a cooperation agreement on August 6 to link tourism growth with the development of rural communities.
