Cabildo Presents First Draft of Natural Parks Plan to Municipalities
The update affects parks such as Jandía, Corralejo, and the Lobos Islet, whose regulations have not been reviewed for years. These documents are key because they set permitted uses, activity limitations, and conservation criteria.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura met this Thursday with political and technical representatives from the six major municipalities to continue drafting the management plans for the island’s natural parks, the institution announced in a press release.
At the meeting, attended by the Cabildo president Lola García, the Territorial Planning councilor Nereida Calero, other island councilors, and municipal representatives, the current status of the process was presented.
- The Cabildo has received a first draft prepared by the drafting team, which has already been reviewed by the island’s technical staff and returned with a series of possible corrections.
- Simultaneously, the municipalities have been asked to study the document with their own technicians and submit any contributions or corrections they deem necessary.
The goal is that, by September, all municipal proposals can be sent back to the drafting team, which will assess their feasibility and fit within the final document.
“This is a coordination effort with all local administrations to ensure that the future management plan reflects the reality and needs of each municipality, with a consensual and technical approach,” said President Lola García.
“The management of natural parks is not only a technical matter; it is also a commitment to preserving our environment, and we must balance conservation with responsible land use,” emphasized Councilor Nereida Calero.
By taking this step, the Cabildo is moving ahead of the usual schedule so that municipalities receive the information early and can work on their proposals with greater rigor.
