Cabildo unanimously approves modernization of bus stops in Fuerteventura

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has unanimously approved a motion driven by Nueva Canarias (NC) to advance the modernization of inter‑urban bus stops on the island. The initiative aims to improve accessibility, comfort, and the information available to service users.

The proposal, defended in the island’s plenary by the NC councilor, calls for a progressive plan to equip stops with basic elements such as shade structures, wind and rain shelters, seating, and appropriate signage. It also envisions the installation of real‑time information systems displaying schedules and bus arrival times.

The proponent group highlighted that many stops currently lack minimum comfort standards, especially in areas exposed to sun and wind. This shortfall affects both residents and tourists who rely on public transport for their journeys.

The motion proposes a phased, planned intervention, prioritizing high‑traffic zones and locations with the greatest deficiencies, with the goal of standardizing infrastructure quality across all municipalities.

With this unanimous agreement, the island corporation takes another step toward improving public transportation in Fuerteventura, reinforcing its commitment to more accessible, sustainable, and citizen‑focused mobility.
