Cabildo works on improving public transport infrastructure
Employment plan targets preferred stops, bus stations and shelters
The “Improve Your Journeys” employment program continues to upgrade the island’s public‑transport infrastructure, aiming to provide more accessible and safer spaces while also creating jobs for 13 unemployed people who carry out cleaning and rehabilitation tasks.
“These employment plans are focused on strategic areas and respond to the population’s needs, delivering a very important public‑service role in transport infrastructure,” said island president Lola García.
According to Nuria Cabrera, the councilor for Employment Promotion, the project works on bus stations, preferred stops and shelters throughout northern, central and southern Fuerteventura, in coordination with the island’s Transport Department headed by Luis González.
Locations being upgraded
- Bus stations in Puerto del Rosario and Morro Jable
- Preferred stops in Caleta de Fuste, Gran Tarajal, Corralejo and El Cotillo
- Shelters in about fifty towns across the island
The interventions include comprehensive cleaning, repairs, painting and beautification of both interior and exterior areas, as well as enhancements to landscaped zones and urban environments linked to public transport.
In some sites, additional work has been carried out on garden maintenance, palm pruning, irrigation‑system adjustments and minor repairs to furniture and infrastructure, tailored to the specific needs identified at each location.
The initiative represents an investment of €369,733.23, co‑financed by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).
