Cabildo Wraps Up ‘Cabildo Acts’ Employment Plan with School Quarantine Initiatives

The initiative combines job creation with the improvement and refurbishment of educational infrastructure

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has successfully concluded the Employment Plan “Cabildo Acts,” a twelve‑month project that upgraded the facilities of forty schools across the island while facilitating the employment of 37 unemployed individuals.

The year‑long effort focused on minor construction work, conditioning, and rehabilitation of existing school buildings, responding to the specific needs raised by each centre.

“We are proud of everything they have accomplished. This work has been praised by management teams, teachers, students and families,” said President María García during the closing ceremony.

From the Cabildo’s perspective, the plan proved to be an effective tool for generating jobs, enhancing school infrastructure, and directly addressing the centres’ requirements, reinforcing the island corporation’s commitment to education and social welfare.

Key works carried out include:

  • Waterproofing and roof repairs
  • Painting and conditioning of facilities, walls and façades
  • Upgrading fences and installing ramps to improve accessibility

According to President García, the initiative was funded with more than €1 million, co‑financed by the Cabildo’s own resources and the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).

Employment Minister Nuria Cabrera announced that “the intention is to launch another edition of the Cabildo Acts plan next year, because it has been a complete success thanks to the great work of the employees.” She also highlighted the essential collaboration of municipal governments and the coordination with the Education departments of both the Cabildo and the Canary Islands Government.

Education Counselor Adargoma Hernández emphasized that the project exemplifies the synergy between the Employment Promotion and Education areas of the island corporation.

The ceremony was also attended by Local Development and Employment councilors Érica García (Puerto del Rosario) and Lucía Darriba (Pájara), Environment Counselor Carlos Rodríguez, and opposition councilor Sonia Álamo (NC‑FAC).
