Campo de Lucha and Tarajalejo Seafront Get Upgrades
The installation of a stainless‑steel railing on the Tarajalejo seafront is accompanied by the replacement of a beach‑access stair, and in the Campo de Lucha the scheduled upgrades are nearing completion. According to the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, the works are coordinated with the Tuineje City Council within the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” programme.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Services of Works and Machinery and under the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” programme, has begun installing a railing on the Tarajalejo seafront and carrying out a series of upgrades at the local Campo de Lucha.
In the “Pedro Sánchez” Canarian Fighting Pit, the institution is finalising beautification and cleaning works. Coordinated with the Tuineje City Council, the upgrades include:
- Painting of interior and exterior surfaces
- Repair of cracks and spalling
- Deep cleaning of all areas of the venue
“The programme does not only focus on natural environments, but also on identity‑related infrastructures such as the fighting pits,” said Cabildo President Lola García.
“Fighting fields are spaces of social coexistence, sporting practice, and identity bonding, so this action transcends the purely sporting,” added Councilor Blas Acosta.
The contract, executed by Gesplan, is part of a 15‑month plan (2024‑2025) with an investment of four million euros earmarked for about a hundred “proximity actions” that enhance both visitor perception and residents’ quality of life across the island.
Improvements to Access and Safety on the Tarajalejo Seafront
The works, coordinated with the Tuineje City Council, cover a 70‑metre stretch of the avenue where the height difference with the beach reaches two metres, prompting safety measures. The project includes:
- Installation of stainless‑steel tubes to ensure resistance and durability in the marine environment, seamlessly integrated into the promenade’s aesthetic.
- Commencement of construction this Monday to provide pedestrians with greater safety and functionality.
Simultaneously, a geotechnical study is being commissioned ahead of the demolition of the stairway damaged by the sea. After debris removal, a new, optimal beach access will be built.
“It is essential to keep coordination with the municipalities to carry out improvement actions in infrastructures and environments throughout the island territory,” emphasized President Lola García.
“This railing is another example of the social utility of ‘Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature’, a programme that undertakes modest actions with a significant impact on the place’s quality of life,” noted Councilor Blas Acosta.
The intervention directly benefits residents, visitors, and tourism establishments in Tarajalejo, providing a safer and more attractive seafront, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura concluded in a press release.
