Canary Coalition Demands PSOE Set Up Pact Monitoring Table
Following what is considered a “disloyalty” due to the press release on the Marlape demolition file, tensions have risen between the parties that underpin the institutional power in Puerto del Rosario and, by extension, across the island.
Although it is claimed that no statements will be made until the monitoring‑committee meeting on the pact with the Socialist Party, the waters have become murky in the relationship between the governing parties.
A press release sent yesterday concerning the demolition file—or the possible negotiation with SAREB over the occupied houses in the Marlape urbanization, in the capital area of Playa Blanca—has sparked this tension between the leaders of both parties.
In this regard, a monitoring committee on the pact has been convened to address the issue and restore confidence. According to sources close to the PSOE:
“The blood will not reach the river.”
The remark is viewed as a serious misstep by the municipal executive of Puerto del Rosario with that release.
Marlape Dossier
After countless meetings with SAREB and in the search for solutions to ensure the health and habitability of the area, and receiving no response from the agency, the council finally decided to initiate demolition procedures and to press the matter with various sanctions in case of non‑compliance.
At the latest meeting, held in May of this year, the Mayor and the Socialist councilor Toñi Fernández attempted to “launch various administrative procedures against the entity, urging it to guarantee urban‑planning legality in Rosa Vila and Marlape.”
But after the umpteenth meeting and the umpteenth refusal to take any action, the council proposed the final solution after decades of inaction in the area.
