Canary Islands airports to handle about 1,303 flights this Holy Thursday

Between 27 March and 6 April, the island aerodromes expect up to 15,019 operations during the Easter holidays.

The Canary Islands airports will handle a total of 1,303 flights on Holy Thursday, 33 more than the same holiday in 2025 (which fell on 17 April), according to data supplied by Aena.

  • Gran Canaria Airport will record the highest number of operations on the island that day, with 400 flights (255 domestic and 145 international).
  • Tenerife North follows with 228 flights.
  • Lanzarote: 218 flights.
  • Tenerife South: 207 flights.
  • Fuerteventura: 201 flights.

Across the whole Spanish airport network, Aena forecasts 6,536 flights for Holy Thursday, six more than in 2025.

In total, from 27 March to 6 April, 70,505 aircraft movements are scheduled, only 0.9 % fewer than a year earlier.

Strike in Ground Handling

This Easter coincides with an indefinite strike called by CCOO, UGT and USO at Groundforce, the handling company of Globalia. The strike takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, across three time slots: 05:00‑07:00, 11:00‑17:00, and 22:00‑00:00.

  • Sunday, 5 April will see the highest traffic, with 6,771 movements.
  • Monday, 6 April: 6,652 movements.
  • Saturday, 4 April: 6,648 movements.
  • Thursday, 2 April: 6,536 movements.

The three busiest airports in Spain over these 11 days are:

  1. Adolfo Suárez Madrid‑Barajas12,933 movements (up 4.7 % YoY).
  2. Barcelona‑El Prat11,339 movements (up 2 %).
  3. Palma de Mallorca7,502 movements (up 11.6 %).

Closing the list are:

  • Málaga‑Costa del Sol5,996 movements (down 0.7 %).
  • Gran Canaria4,612 flights (up 6 %).
