Canary Islands Council and Government allocate €35.7 million to social‑health positions

The dependency agreement will enable the island to reach 589 socio‑health places, covering care for the elderly, dependent persons and people with disabilities.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands have signed the 2025‑2028 Dependency Agreement, committing a total investment of €35.7 million across the four fiscal years.

Funding Breakdown

  • The Cabildo of Fuerteventura will contribute €9.2 million for the 2025‑2028 period.
  • The Autonomous Community will add €26.4 million.

For the 2026 fiscal year, €9,414,136.17 will be allocated, allowing the number of places to rise from 300 to 442 on the island. This was announced by island president Lola García and Social Action counselor Víctor Alonso during the signing ceremony in Gran Canaria with the Social Welfare Department, headed by Candelaria Delgado.

Official Statements

“Caring for people is one of our top priorities. For this reason, we have planned the places our island needs for those who require them.” – Lola García

“The financing will enable us to increase the current 300 places to 442, using the various resources already available in Fuerteventura, and we continue to incorporate new places thanks to coordination with the municipalities.” – Lola García

“The total increase of 142 places will mainly come from the Personal Autonomy Promotion Service, which has already been awarded through a social agreement and will receive €900,000 this year. This home‑care service will support 134 dependent individuals and will be staffed by coordinators, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, geriatric caregivers, and senior‑activity animation technicians.” – Víctor Alonso
