Canary Islands Government Awards Contract for 75 New Affordable Homes in Puerto del Rosario

The works will be carried out on two municipal plots, costing more than €12 million and will include the corresponding garage spaces.

The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Canary Islands Government, through the Canary Institute of Housing (ICAVI), has provisionally awarded the construction of 75 new publicly promoted protected homes in Puerto del Rosario, on the island of Fuerteventura.

The project initially received no bids in the first tender process and is part of the implementation of Decree‑Law 1/2024 of 19 February, which establishes urgent measures to address the housing emergency in the Canary Islands, according to a regional government press release.

The development will take place on two parcels within the municipality, totaling 75 homes and their associated garage spaces. On the Don Quijote parcel, bounded by Don Quijote, Dulcinea and Sorolla streets, 47 homes and 47 garage spaces will be built.

The award for this parcel has been granted to the joint venture formed by Tecnología de la Construcción y Obras Públicas S.A. and Obras Públicas Canarias S.L. (OPC), with a budget of €6,816,577.85.

On the Bernegal parcel, located between Bernegal, El Alpende and Tabajoste streets, 28 homes and 28 garage spaces will be constructed. This portion has been awarded to Citanias Obras y Servicios S.L.U., for €5,362,613.07.

The Canary Islands Government “reinforces” its commitment to creating protected housing across the islands and “takes another step forward” in responding to the current housing demand in Fuerteventura.
