Canary Islands Government issues pre‑alert for rain in Fuerteventura
This Thursday the combination will be wind, rain and high seas.
The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General of Emergencies, has declared a pre‑alert situation for rain affecting Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, effective from 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.
The decision is based on information from the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources, and follows the Canary Islands Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Weather Phenomena (PEFMA).
The alert will impact the northern parts of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, as well as the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Forecasts indicate a persistent rain episode that may range from moderate to heavy intensity, accompanied by strong gusts. The low‑pressure system is also expected to lift dust from the African continent and transport it toward the Canaries, potentially causing mud‑rain.
Precipitation will mainly affect high‑altitude areas and mountain slopes on the northern faces of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, together with Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
Storm activity is anticipated in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, where the formation of frequent hail cannot be ruled out.
