Canary Islands Government Issues Pre‑Alert for Rain in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General for Emergencies, has declared a pre‑alert situation for rain in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, effective from 06:00 h on Thursday, 2 October.
The decision is based on information supplied by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and other sources, in accordance with the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks from Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
According to the forecasts, weak to moderate precipitation is expected on both islands, although occasional showers with thunderstorms cannot be ruled out in various parts of the territory.
The Directorate General for Emergencies reminds citizens of the importance of following self‑protection advice during rain episodes, including:
- Avoiding unnecessary travel
- Inspecting the condition of roofs and drainage systems
- Exercising extra caution on roads and in ravines
Authorities stress the need to stay informed through official channels and to always heed the recommendations of security and emergency services.
