Canary Islands Issue Coastal and Wind Alert

The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, relying on the AEMET forecast and other available sources, has declared both a coastal‑phenomena alert and a wind alert for the entire archipelago.

Wave conditions

  • A combined sea from the north or northwest may reach up to 7 meters in height around Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
  • This is classified as a swell that can intensify into a strong or heavy swell.
  • The eastern‑facing coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are the least exposed.
  • The tidal coefficient will be very high on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wind conditions

  • Gusts are expected to hit 80 km/h at times on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with winds coming from the northwest.
  • The remaining islands should experience winds of 70–80 km/h.

The situation is complicated by winds of up to 90 km/h and waves reaching 7 meters.
