Canary Islands Parliament launches video podcast on child and adolescent mental health

The aim of this initiative is to create a space for reflection and debate on the state of mental health in the Canary Islands.

In observance of International Suicide Prevention Day, the Parliament of the Canary Islands will broadcast a special video‑podcast on mental health this 10 September at 10:00 a.m. through its official social‑media channels.

The project seeks to open a dialogue about mental‑health issues across the archipelago, with particular focus on children and adolescents—a group increasingly confronting anxiety, self‑harm and suicide attempts.

The video‑podcast will be moderated by the President of the Parliament, Astrid Pérez, and will feature experts from various fields who will discuss topics such as school bullying, the impact of social media, available health resources, and current challenges for families, teachers and health professionals.

Participants in the Debate

  • Fernando Gómez‑Pamo Guerra del Río – Director General of Mental Health and Addictions, Government of the Canary Islands.
  • Marcos Val – Police officer and tutor specialized in minors and school bullying.
  • Miguel Tomé – Vice‑president of the Canary Islands Mental Health Federation.
  • Marian Álvarez – President of the Federation of Parents and Guardians Associations of Gran Canaria.
