Canary Islands to invest €70 million in dual vocational training for the unemployed.
The Canary Employment Service will make the biggest investment effort in training in its history in the interest of social equality.
The Government of the Canary Islands is launching the largest training initiative ever planned for 2026, aiming to provide unemployed workers with qualified education tailored to the new demands of the regional labor market. The program will be based on Dual Vocational Training ( Dual), an educational model that combines theoretical instruction at a training centre with practical experience in a company, allowing students to apply what they learn in a real‑world work environment.
Within the active employment policies the government can implement, training is a key lever to boost companies’ capabilities, increase productivity across the islands, and, above all, create higher‑paid, quality jobs.
The administration recognizes the training needs of a workforce that requires specialization on many fronts.
New job roles demand knowledge of modern tools, which in turn calls for the modernization of both the training offer and the accredited training centres. Local training providers have been working for years to adapt and upgrade their facilities, positioning the Canary Islands at the forefront of Spain’s vocational education.
Through the Ministry of Tourism and Employment, the Canary Islands Government will allocate a total of €70 million to this effort, prioritizing assistance for unemployed individuals.
All government initiatives converge on supporting Canary society with a turn toward improving islanders’ quality of life—providing training to progress and find a meaningful place in a changing reality.
In this sense, the Ministry of Tourism and Employment, through the Canary Employment Service, acknowledges the importance of investing in education so that unemployed men and women in the Canary Islands can obtain the support they need for a better quality of life for themselves and their families.
This investment in Dual Vocational Training for employment is expected to produce an immediate and sustainable reduction in unemployment figures across the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, delivering dignified job opportunities for the region’s jobless population.
