Candelaria Umpiérrez resigns as Tuineje mayor after meeting with the party

The decision was made for “personal reasons,” according to her party, Coalición Canaria – Asamblea Majorera, and will not affect the municipal governing pact with the Socialist Party.

Candelaria Umpiérrez Ramos formally submitted her resignation to the Local Political Council (CPL), announcing the end of her tenure at the head of Tuineje’s town hall. Her party, Coalición Canaria – Asamblea Majorera, stated that the resignation is driven by “personal reasons.”

Umpiérrez took office in a period marked by severe institutional challenges:

  • Persistent instability within the municipal corporation,
  • Municipal accounts under financial strain,
  • Lack of a consolidated staff‑positions register, and
  • No progress on the General Plan.

She described this context when explaining her decision before the CPL, as detailed in the party’s communiqué.

The party publicly thanked Umpiérrez for the responsibility she assumed and the institutional sense she demonstrated while steering the town hall through a particularly difficult phase, praising her “political stature” in concluding a legislature fraught with multiple complexities.

Colleagues and party members also acknowledged her loyalty and dedication, extending their support and best wishes for the new personal chapter she is beginning.

Finally, the party reassured Tuineje’s citizens that the governing pact with coalition partners remains intact and that a prepared team will continue to lead the council, fulfilling the government program pledged to the municipality’s residents.
