Capital Approves €63.3 Million Budget

The municipal council of Puerto del Rosario approved this afternoon, in an initial vote, the General Budget of Income and Expenditure for 2026, amounting to €63,347,397.75 – an increase of roughly 12 % compared with the previous year.

According to the town hall’s press release, “the 2026 municipal accounts reflect a greater economic capacity for the city, aimed at consolidating essential public services, driving strategic investments, and maintaining a firm social commitment, all under criteria of responsibility and financial stability.”

Strengthening Public Services and Daily City Operations

A core part of the budget is dedicated to ensuring the smooth functioning of the city and the provision of basic municipal services. Current and personnel expenses together account for over €49 million. Key allocations include:

  • Street cleaning, waste collection and treatment: > €3.5 million
  • Maintenance and cleaning of municipal buildings and schools
  • Public lighting: ~ €2.5 million for upkeep
  • Parks, gardens and green areas: > €2.4 million, contributing to a cleaner, more livable, and sustainable city

The personnel budget, exceeding €21.8 million, reinforces municipal teams in crucial areas such as public safety, social services, urban planning, urban maintenance, and general administration, ensuring more effective citizen assistance.

Boosting Municipal Investments and Urban Transformation

The 2026 budget maintains a clear focus on real investments, allocating more than €4.3 million to projects that will have a direct and visible impact on the municipality.

“Among the most relevant investments are projects for the rehabilitation and improvement of public roads and sidewalks, actions to advance universal accessibility, the pedestrianisation of Avenida Primero de Mayo, upgrades to urban spaces in neighborhoods and villages, as well as interventions in parks, gardens and shaded areas,” the council explained.

Additional investment lines include:

  • Upgrading and making the Municipal Library, cultural centers, and sports facilities more accessible.
  • Enhancing the coastline through works on the promenade and local beaches.

Social Protection and Support for Residents

The budget sustains and strengthens the city’s social commitment, earmarking over €2.5 million for transfers and direct aid to families, groups, and social organisations. It guarantees the continuity of:

  • Home assistance and tele‑assistance programs
  • Services for the elderly, children, and families
  • Emergency social aid exceeding €350,000
  • Support for vulnerable groups and people with functional diversity

Existing agreements and subsidies with social, health, and equality entities are maintained, underpinning a cohesive and solidary community.

Education, Culture, Sport, and Citizen Participation

Resources are also allocated to education, culture, sport, and civic engagement, covering:

  • Maintenance and improvement of schools, educational programs, and school transport
  • Cultural programming, popular festivals, and support for cultural and sports associations
  • Municipal sports schools and community activities in neighborhoods and villages

Financial Stability and Responsibility

The budget’s growth does not jeopardise the municipality’s economic stability. Financial expenses remain at very low levels, and a contingency fund is established to address unforeseen events, ensuring prudent and responsible management.

“The 2026 budget strengthens the city’s capacity to respond to real municipal needs, consolidating public services, driving important investments, and maintaining a firm social commitment,” said Mayor David de Vera.

“This is a rigorously planned budget that channels economic growth into city improvements, reinforces services, and executes necessary investments without increasing superfluous spending or risking financial stability,” added Councilor for Economy and Finance Juan Manuel Verdugo.

With the initial approval of these accounts, the Puerto del Rosario City Council sets the foundation for a fiscal year focused on consolidating municipal services and advancing projects that will enhance the quality of life for its residents.
