Capital city approves historic €9.
The ambitious multi‑year programme includes strategic actions in neighborhoods, rural areas, public spaces and municipal facilities.
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has given the green light to an ambitious multi‑year investment plan that will allocate a total of €9,529,660.32 to the execution of strategic projects between 2026 and 2029. The initiative, one of the most important of the current legislature, aims to modernise key infrastructure, improve public services and raise the quality of life in the municipality’s neighborhoods and rural zones.
The plan, which has been forwarded to the full council for final approval, outlines a series of large‑scale actions that, because of their technical and financial magnitude, require a budgetary planning horizon that spans several fiscal years. The proposal also includes an exceptional amendment to the spending limits set out in the Local Treasury Law—a necessary step to guarantee the viability and proper execution of the works.
“We are facing an unprecedented investment that will transform Puerto del Rosario. This governing team has a firm commitment to improving services and modernising our municipality. With this plan we not only respond to historic demands from our neighbours, but we also lay the foundations for a more prosperous, accessible and sustainable future. Every euro of this investment is intended to directly improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods, from the centre to the rural areas,” said Mayor David de Vera.
The bulk of the funding is concentrated in 2027, with more than €7.3 million earmarked for high‑impact projects. Notable actions include:
- Asphalting and service renewal in the Charco neighbourhood – €3.68 million.
- Service renewal, asphalting and installation of speed limiters in the Las Granadas neighbourhood – €1.34 million.
- Redevelopment of Risco Prieto Park (a long‑term project running 2026‑2029) – €1.44 million.
- Improvements in various rural zones, such as speed limiters and road surfacing – over €715,000.
“This plan allows us to address, in an integrated way, the renewal of infrastructure that is essential to citizens’ daily lives. We are talking about improving road safety, guaranteeing basic services such as sanitation and water supply, and creating higher‑quality public spaces. Projects like the Charco neighbourhood renewal or the intervention in Las Granadas are clear examples of our commitment to a more cohesive municipality with better facilities for everyone,” explained Councilor for Works Ana Hernández.
The programme also earmarks funds for cultural and safety facilities, including the La Matilla Cultural Centre (€650,727) and the Firefighters’ Park (€423,285), as well as upgrades to accessibility and equipment in coastal areas such as Playa Blanca.
From a financial perspective, Councilor for Economy and Finance Juan Manuel Verdugo highlighted the rigor behind the operation:
“An investment of this magnitude demands responsible and transparent economic management. Approving multi‑year spending and amending the legal limits, as we propose to the full council, gives us a tool to align the budget with the real pace of project execution, ensuring the municipality’s financial sustainability. We are planning for the long term, with legal certainty and the confidence that we have the mechanisms needed to fund these strategic actions without compromising the institution’s economic health.”
The full council’s approval of this dossier will be the decisive step to launch procurement procedures and begin materialising one of the most significant transformations of Puerto del Rosario in the last decade.
