Capital Grants Endesa License to Dismantle Charco Plant Turbines
The municipality has already made municipal land available to facilitate relocation to a suitable site
The Puerto del Rosario City Council has approved the urban planning licence requested by Unión Eléctrica Canarias Generación, S.A.U. (Endesa) to dismantle the unit known as Gas Móvil 1 at the Las Salinas Thermal Power Plant, located in the El Charco neighbourhood.
The licence was granted after the company submitted all required technical and administrative documentation, including payment of municipal fees. Although the file was still awaiting the report from the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) concerning the aerial easement needed for the use of mobile cranes during the works, the council resolved the matter in record time and approved it conditionally, making the start of the works dependent on obtaining that report.
The project foresees a partial dismantling of the installation, which represents only 1 % of the plant’s total area, but it marks a significant step toward the plant’s final closure and the transformation of the El Charco area.
“This is an important step, even if it is the first, towards the total dismantling of the thermal plant. The City Council remains firm in its commitment to permanently relocate this facility outside the urban core and to regenerate the El Charco zone,” said David de Vera, mayor of Puerto del Rosario.
Mayor de Vera also reminded that the council has already set aside municipal land to facilitate that relocation to an appropriate site, continuing the roadmap agreed upon in the municipal plenary.
“Our goal is clear: to move toward a more livable, sustainable city free of obsolete infrastructure at the heart of Puerto del Rosario. This first dismantling symbolizes the start of a new era for the municipality,” he added.
The resolution was processed in record time thanks to the excellent work of the technical office of the Urban Planning and Development area, led by councilor Ana Hernández, and is based on favourable technical and legal reports issued on 3 and 4 November 2025.
The council reminds that the start of the works must be announced at least 10 days in advance, once AESA authorization is obtained, in accordance with the Canary Islands Land and Protected Natural Spaces Law.
