Capital Sets Aside Land for New National Police Precinct
Mayor David de Vera highlights the importance of dignified new facilities for the police force in Puerto del Rosario
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has formalised the donation of a municipal plot for the construction of the new National Police Headquarters, a project deemed strategic for strengthening public safety and improving working conditions for police officers in the island’s capital.
The donated parcel, identified as AD‑052, covers 2,956 m² and is located in an urban area suitable for the development of this infrastructure, according to the technical documentation submitted to the National Police and the Ministry of the Interior.
In recent months the Council has maintained constant communication with police officials, who have conveyed the urgent need for modern, adequate facilities to replace the current headquarters, which suffers from shortcomings and limitations that hinder normal service performance.
“Puerto del Rosario needs and deserves police facilities that match its growth and the municipality’s security needs. With this donation we show we will not wait for other administrations to solve a problem that is urgent and evident.” – Mayor David de Vera
“We have made a suitable municipal land available to the Ministry of the Interior, and we do so with a firm will to collaborate and accelerate the realisation of this project. Citizen safety is a priority and this Council will always act responsibly.” – Mayor David de Vera
Urban Planning guarantees the parcel’s availability and compliance with the General Plan
Urban Planning councilor Ana Hernández underscored the technical work and municipal coordination that ensured the donated land met all required urban‑planning criteria:
“From the Urban Planning department we have worked to guarantee that plot AD‑052 was available on time and in proper form, confirming that it complies with all requirements set out in the General Urban Planning Plan. It is a service‑oriented land whose classification allows the development of public facilities such as this headquarters.”
She also highlighted the priority given to the file because of its social impact:
“Urban planning must serve the real needs of the municipality. Therefore, we have coordinated technical teams and streamlined procedures so the project can progress without delays, always within the framework of the General Plan and with the administrative rigor demanded by an infrastructure of this type.”
A municipal strategy focused on improving public services
The land donation for the new police headquarters adds to other recent actions by the City Council aimed at reinforcing key infrastructures demanded by the municipality, especially in essential areas such as education and housing.
Donation of land for new educational facilities
In October, the Council made several municipal plots available to the Government of the Canary Islands for the planning of new schools and the expansion of existing ones, responding to population growth and identified needs in various neighbourhoods. The parcels have the appropriate classification and surface area, as reflected in the documentation sent to the regional Ministry.
“Education is a priority for this administration. We want the Canary Islands Government to have the land it needs to plan new infrastructures where they are most required.” – Mayor David de Vera
Donation of more than 20,000 m² to boost public housing
Similarly, the Council offered the regional Government over 20,000 m² of municipal land, divided into seven plots, for the construction of public and social housing, directly addressing the housing emergency in the Canary Islands.
“Puerto del Rosario cannot stand aside from the housing emergency. We are providing land so families can access dignified and affordable homes.” – Mayor David de Vera
The mayor concluded:
“We are demonstrating that when the City Council acts with determination, collaboration and responsibility, we advance projects that improve the lives of our neighbours. Our commitment is clear: to put municipal resources at the service of Puerto del Rosario’s real needs.”
