Car plunges into the sea at Corralejo pier

Protocols activated to prevent a possible marine pollution spill

Around 10:30 a.m., after a call to 112Canarias, a coordinated and rapid intervention by the emergency and security bodies of the municipality of La Oliva allowed authorities this morning to successfully manage the refloating of a tourist vehicle that accidentally fell into the waters of the Corralejo port. The operation, carried out jointly by the La Oliva Firefighters, Civil Protection, Local Police and the Civil Guard, resulted only in material damage.

Upon receiving the alert, the emergency system was activated immediately. The first responders to arrive secured the area to guarantee the safety of citizens and conducted an initial assessment.

Because the vehicle was completely submerged inside the port, one of the main priorities was to control the risk of marine contamination. The Firefighters and Civil Protection teams, following established protocols for this type of incident, deployed containment barriers (absorbents) around the vehicle to prevent the possible dispersion of hydrocarbons or other contaminant fluids.

Later, once the maritime area was secured, the vehicle was refloated using a specialized crane—a technical operation that required perfect synchronization of all responding services. The Local Police and the Civil Guard directed traffic and maintained a security perimeter throughout the operation.

The Civil Guard’s maritime service provided support to ensure that no vessel entered the work zone.
