Canary Islands Authorizes €3.87 million for Roofing Sports Fields in Seven Educational Centers
The Canary Islands Government Council approved on Monday the procurement, budgeting, and opening of the tender procedure for the work “Execution of works by lots for seven sports‑field roofing projects.” The contract will be awarded through an open procedure and ordinary processing, with a total value of €3.87 million.
According to the regional executive, the initiative is part of the Plan for Adapting Educational Centers to High Temperatures. Its goal is to ensure that students have suitable outdoor spaces for sports activities year‑round, protected from solar radiation and adverse weather conditions.
The investment will fund the roofing of sports fields at the following institutions:
- CEIP Luis Cortí in Santa María de Guía, Gran Canaria
- CEIP Pájara and CEIP Cristóbal García Blairzy in Fuerteventura
- IES César Manrique in Arrecife, Lanzarote
- IES Teobaldo Power in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
- IES Luis Cobiella Cuevas in Santa Cruz de La Palma
- IES Garoé in Valverde, El Hierro
The approved budget, to be spread over several fiscal years, will be drawn from the allocations earmarked for the aforementioned plan. It covers a range of actions, including foundation works, installation of metal structures, partial demolitions where necessary, and accessibility upgrades to ensure the facilities meet all required technical standards.
