Chamber of Commerce hosts "Strengths of a Plural Spain" forum
The Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura hosted on Thursday the debate “The Strengths of Plural Spain,” an initiative led by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce that takes place simultaneously across the entire chamber network. The event aims to identify and highlight the values and assets of each territory in order to build a shared narrative that drives progress for the whole country.
“Through this forum we want to positively and constructively claim the strengths that make us competitive and that define our identity within a plural Spain,” said Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal, president of the Fuerteventura Chamber, during the opening remarks.
The session unfolded as a dynamic exchange of ideas, with participants analysing how the sum of local assets enriches Spain’s reality. The multidisciplinary panel included:
- Inmaculada de Armas Morales, historian
- Toño Alonso‑Patallo Valerón, painter, sculptor and academic of the Royal Canary Academy of Fine Arts
- Tony Gallardo Campos, director of the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve
- Borja Cabrera Rodríguez, chef
- Jesús León Lima, vice‑president of the Social Council of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
- Juan Rodríguez Ramírez, entrepreneur and public‑works engineer
- Tenesor Cruz Niesvaara, animator and illustrator
Topics Discussed
- The richness of the island’s natural and cultural heritage
- Historical trajectory of Fuerteventura
- Talent and the educational system
- Innovative capacity and entrepreneurship
- Local gastronomy and culinary traditions
- Development of infrastructure and mobility
- The role of business and the economic system
The experts unanimously agreed that Fuerteventura’s singularity is a key element for understanding the diversity and potential of Spain’s national brand.
A synthesis document will be drafted from today’s interventions and compared with the results obtained from other chambers of commerce. The ultimate goal is to systematise these contributions, draw comparable conclusions, and enable a strategic repositioning of the country based on its real strengths.
