City Council Expands Lifeguard Services at Playa Blanca and Los Molinos
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has formalised the start of a new contract for beach surveillance, rescue and lifeguard services, now operational on the municipality’s flagged beaches. The contract, awarded to the specialist company PRO‑ACTIVA SERVEIS AQUÀTICS S.L., was signed last Thursday and entered into force the following day, Friday 17 April.
The new agreement includes a series of significant improvements aimed at raising service quality, notably:
- Extending the surveillance period on Playa Blanca.
- Doubling coverage on Los Molinos beach, increasing from four to eight months of patrol – a response to what the council describes as “a historic demand”.
While the council’s note does not detail the exact scale of the enhancements, it assures that the service now benefits from more technical and human resources, a larger pool of qualified personnel, updated equipment, and material assets tailored to the specific characteristics of each coastal zone.
According to the communiqué, these upgrades translate into a faster response to any incident and greater preventive capacity, making “a difference in the day‑to‑day life of our beaches”.
Safer Beaches for Longer
“Talking about lifeguarding is talking about protection and public responsibility. This service is essential, which is why we have committed to improving its coverage and resources. We want our beaches to be safe spaces for longer periods and with greater guarantees, both for residents and visitors.”
— Mayor David de Vera
“This new contract not only extends surveillance times but also introduces important quality improvements. We have listened to users and professionals, and today we are taking a step that will be felt in the safety and peace of mind of those who enjoy our beaches.”
— Councilor for Beaches Toñi Fdez. Aragón
With the launch of this enhanced service, the City Council continues its comprehensive effort to improve the municipality’s coastline, safeguarding not only its natural appeal but also the security and well‑being of everyone who enjoys it.
