Civil Guard investigates three men in Fuerteventura for drug trafficking

The Civil Guard unit based in Morro Jable is investigating three men in Fuerteventura for alleged involvement in a drug‑trafficking offense after seizing a total of 68 kilograms of hashish off the coast of Costa Calma. Two of the suspects have prior convictions for property crimes, drug trafficking and smuggling.

The incident occurred on December 26, when officers spotted a suspicious vessel coming from the open sea and heading toward Matas Blancas beach. A joint operation was launched, involving personnel from the Morro Jable main station and the Gran Tarajal station.

During the intervention, officers found three individuals on the shoreline and identified two vehicles that appeared ready for a drug off‑load: an off‑road vehicle driven by one of the suspects and a van parked with its doors open and the interior empty.

Suspecting a hidden cache, the Civil Guard searched the coastline and surrounding area. A local citizen reported several floating bundles, which were retrieved with the help of the officers. Inside, they discovered pressed tablets of a substance resembling hashish, weighing 24 kilograms.

To ensure no additional packages were missed, the Morro Jable investigation team continued the search from a recreational boat, locating a fourth bundle with the same characteristics that contained 44 kilograms of the same substance. In total, the operation intercepted 68 kilograms of hashish.

The three men, together with the formal investigative procedures, have been placed before the Guardianship Court in Puerto del Rosario. The confiscated drugs will be sent to the Functional Health Area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for weighing, analysis and further study.
