Civil Guard seizes 97.7 kg of hashish at Morro Jable port

A man was detained when he attempted to board 98 packages destined for Gran Canaria.

The Civil Guard intercepted 97.7 kg of hashish at the port of Morro Jable, Fuerteventura, and arrested a man as the alleged perpetrator of a public‑health crime in the form of drug trafficking.

  • The arrest took place on 13 February by agents of the Morro Jable Main Post during one of the periodic anti‑narcotics operations carried out in passenger‑transport ports.
  • The incident occurred at the Morro Jable dock during the boarding of a ferry linking Fuerteventura with Gran Canaria.
  • During routine checks, officers identified the sole occupant of a van and inspected both the vehicle and its cargo.
  • In the inspection, the civil guards found inconsistencies between the driver’s statements and the documentation concerning the merchandise. Consequently, they decided to examine more closely five large bundles inside the vehicle.
  • Inside the bundles they discovered numerous wrappers containing a resinous substance, apparently hashish pollen. After opening and counting, they confirmed 98 vacuum‑sealed plastic bags, each holding 20 pieces or tablets.
  • The total weight of the seized substance amounted to 97.7 kg.

The detainee was taken to official premises and, together with the seized drugs and the initiated proceedings, was placed at the disposal of the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance on duty in Puerto del Rosario.
