Civil Guard to Launch Specialized Unit in Fuerteventura
Majorero PSOE Confident the Interior Ministry Will Soon Create the Usecic in Fuerteventura
The Socialist Party of Fuerteventura believes that the efforts made by various local administrations and Majorero public representatives before the Ministry of the Interior will soon culminate in the establishment of the Citizen Security Unit of the Command (Usecic) on the island.
After the summer, the Civil Guard on the island expanded its command structure, adding a commander’s post. With that first objective achieved—championed by the Majorero socialists—the next goal is to broaden the force’s presence in the island’s southern region.
“A specialized Civil Guard unit with these characteristics is essential and should be based in Gran Tarajal to operate across the entire territory,” says José Cabrera, Municipal Policy Secretary of the PSOE in Fuerteventura.
What the Usecic Would Bring
- Personnel: At least thirty specialized agents, plus their command hierarchy.
- Rapid Intervention: Quick response to high‑risk situations.
- Support to Other Units: Reinforcement for ongoing operations.
- Crime Prevention: Proactive measures against organized crime.
- Public Order: Crowd control during events and assistance with searches, arrests, and raids.
The Usecic is an operational group of the Civil Guard that strengthens citizen security through swift intervention, support to other units, and crime prevention.
Current Coverage and Strategic Importance
- The Civil Guard currently ensures public safety in 65 % of the island’s territory.
- It serves 82.54 % of the registered population and virtually the entire hotel sector.
- The recent creation of a commander’s post on Fuerteventura has raised the island’s strategic relevance within the Ministry of the Interior, paving the way for expanding the Guard’s capabilities and establishing specialized units like the Usecic.
Political Stance
The Socialist Party of Fuerteventura stresses that the roadmap for citizen security must be handled with “discretion and institutional loyalty” to improve staffing levels, as their representatives have consistently advocated from both party and institutional platforms.
“In citizen security, perception is as important as reality,” reminds José Cabrera.
