Civil Guard's Private Car Torched in Fuerteventura

Two Molotov cocktails thrown at the officer’s personal vehicle

The Spanish Association of Civil Guards (AEGC) reports that a civil guard stationed in Fuerteventura has once again become the target of a violent act. Two years ago, the four tires of his car were punctured.

This time, the aggressor(s) threw two Molotov cocktails containing flammable liquid at the officer’s private vehicle, causing damage exceeding €700.

“The case shows clear premeditation and an intent to cause serious harm. Fortunately, the damage is limited to material loss that the officer or his private insurance will have to cover, unless a compensation claim is opened against the Civil Guard. It is evident that this is a revenge attack because of his work in the force.” – AEGC statement

The association argues that incidents like this justify their demand for civil guards to be recognized as a high‑risk profession. They criticize the Ministry of the Interior for refusing this classification, which they say would also grant greater legal protection for officers, treating them as authorities and imposing harsher penalties on aggressors.

“Such acts justify our demand that the government consider our profession as high‑risk. We do not understand the Ministry of the Interior’s refusal to make this change, which we rightfully request. Recognizing us as an authority would also mean stricter sentences for these attacks.”
