Exercise great caution this Saturday in the north and west of Fuerteventura with waves up to 5 meters high.

The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General of Emergencies, has declared a state of alert for coastal phenomena across the archipelago as of 12:30 p.m. on Friday, 2 January. The decision is based on data from the State Meteorological Agency and other sources, and follows the Specific Emergency Plan for the Canary Islands for Risks from Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).

Territorial Scope

  • Northern, western and southwestern coasts of El Hierro
  • Northern, western and southern coasts of La Palma
  • Western and southwestern coasts of La Gomera
  • Northern and western coasts of the remaining islands

Observations

  • West wind at 50–61 km/h (force 7) with combined sea from the northwest of 4–5 meters, potentially exceeding 5 meters along the western and northern coasts of La Palma and the northern coast of Lanzarote.
  • Full moon on 3 January, accompanied by high to very high tide coefficients for the weekend (87 on the 2nd rising to 92 on Sunday, 4 January), producing spring tides.

“Exercise great caution this Saturday in the north and west of Fuerteventura with waves up to 5 meters high.”
