Complementary Works on FV-1 Between La Capellanía and Corralejo Finally Approved
La Oliva and the Government of the Canary Islands approve the project to create a bike lane and acoustic screens between La Capellanía and Corralejo
The municipality of La Oliva, together with the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, has definitively approved the construction project for the complementary works on the FV‑1 road in the La Capellanía – Corralejo stretch. The €1.85 million initiative includes:
- Installation of acoustic screens to reduce traffic noise.
- Improvements to integrate the road more harmoniously into its surroundings.
- Creation of a dedicated bike lane, answering a long‑standing demand from the residents of Tamaragua.
The main objective is to strengthen the functionality of the road, promote mobility and, in short, enhance the infrastructure safely and diversely.
“With this action we answer one of the biggest demands of the neighbourhood by creating a bike lane that runs from La Capellanía to Corralejo. In addition, this project builds on the already approved installation of lighting on the roundabouts from Corralejo to La Caldereta,” said Isaí Blanco, mayor of La Oliva.
“This initiative, which will improve the sustainability of the infrastructure and people’s quality of life, is carried out within the framework of our Green Strategy, which places sustainability not as an added label but as a core axis of planning, maintenance and use of our roads,” emphasized Pablo Rodríguez, councilor. “We have left behind the traditional view of a road as just a strip of asphalt.”

“From the Cabildo we are thrilled that the bike‑lane project, long demanded by the La Oliva council and the residents of La Capellanía, has finally been approved. This action will improve sustainable mobility, allowing residents to travel by bicycle, while also enhancing the quality of life in the area by reducing highway noise with acoustic screens,” said Lola García, president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.
This initiative reflects the local government’s commitment to improving the road network, promoting sustainable mobility, and enhancing the living conditions of the municipality’s residents.
