Conflict in the Capital's Taxi Sector

The Puerto del Rosario Taxi Drivers’ Cooperative, one of the three associations in the municipality, declares an indefinite strike

Members of the Puerto del Rosario Taxi Drivers’ Cooperative say they will go on an indefinite strike in the capital because of the sector’s deteriorating situation. The cooperative is one of three bodies that currently represent the capital’s taxi drivers.

The members explain that, in their view, the root of the problem lies in the implementation of a work “quadrant” that is inefficient and illogical.

“The model generates unbalanced shifts, leads to exhaustion, and also causes a shortage of available vehicles.”

They also point to a split within the profession, noting that some drivers do not respect the quadrants and urging the city council to intervene to prevent practices that “generate inequality.”

All signs indicate a brewing conflict: the representatives are preparing to launch an indefinite strike, pending authorization from the Government Delegation. The city council has opened the door to dialogue, and municipal sources say an extraordinary taxi‑drivers’ meeting has already been convened.
