Council clears 3.5 km of road shoulders at Gran Tarajal entrance
The works, part of the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” programme, started today and will continue for two weeks
The Cabildo has dispatched crews from the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” programme to give the road shoulders of the access route to Gran Tarajal a thorough overhaul. Over more than 3.5 linear kilometres, cleaning and clearing operations began this morning to facilitate the flow of vehicles and pedestrians and to improve the aesthetic appearance of the road.
The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, emphasizes the importance of the actions carried out by the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” programme, which are implemented in rural and urban environments across the entire island, enhancing the quality of life for its inhabitants.
The Councillor for Works and Machinery, Blas Acosta, explains:
“Gran Tarajal is a large town and deserves to showcase its best image on its main entry road, so that it reflects the pride of living, working, or visiting the locality.”
The works began this morning using manual methods, allowing the crews to address clearing and cleaning tasks with greater precision. The operators are expected to work for about two weeks to cover the more than 3.5 linear kilometres of road shoulders.
“This in Gran Tarajal will undoubtedly improve visitors’ perception,” says Blas Acosta, “and the next phase of the works, which will focus on freeing the mouth of the ravine bridge so that water can flow during rain and avoid flooding, will raise the social well‑being of the town.”
The Cabildo’s Service of Works and Machinery, through its own unit Gestión y Planeamiento Territorial y Medioambiental (Gesplan), is implementing the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” programme over a 15‑month period spanning 2024‑2025.
During both fiscal years, four million euros of self‑funding will be invested in roughly a hundred “proximity actions” that directly impact the conservation of the natural environment, the positive perception of visitors, and the quality of life of residents.
