Course in Puerto del Rosario Aims to Curb Sexual Harassment in Sports

The Puerto del Rosario City Council has launched the “Sensitization against Sexual and Gender‑Based Harassment” course, a pioneering initiative in the municipality aimed at sports entities and professionals who regularly work with children and adolescents in the fields of sport, education, leisure and free time.

The training aims to provide practical tools for the prevention, detection and intervention in cases of sexual or gender‑based harassment, in line with Organic Law 8/2021 on the comprehensive protection of children and adolescents from violence.

“Children and adolescents deserve to grow and develop in safe spaces, free from any form of violence. With this course we take another step in Puerto del Rosario’s commitment to equality and the comprehensive protection of our minors,” said Mayor David de Vera.

“Sport is a fundamental pillar of community life, and we must ensure it is always a respectful, inclusive and safe environment. This training gives coaches, monitors and club leaders concrete tools to prevent and act against harassment,” added Sports Councilor Luis Chacón.

The sessions, delivered online with limited seats, will cover essential topics such as early detection of violence, promotion of respectful treatment, digital safety and responsible internet use, attention to diversity, inclusive sport promotion, and the role of the Protection Officer.

Sports entities interested in participating can register by September 22 by emailing [email protected]. The course is free and will take place online on September 24 and 25, 2025, from 19:00 to 21:00, with a maximum of 40 participants on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
