Culture, Identity, and Agritourism Take Center Stage in London

Fuerteventura to develop tourism products with Segittur

The second day of the London International WTM Fair served as the backdrop for a professional meeting between Marlene Figueroa, Tourism Councillor of the Fuerteventura Island Council, and Rosario Sánchez Grau, Secretary of State for Tourism. The two officials formalised a new Tourism Board project aimed at promoting the creation of agrotourism experiences and products that will expand, diversify and de‑season the island’s tourism offer. The initiative also seeks to generate complementary income and business opportunities for primary‑sector producers on the island.

Backed by the Mercantile Society for Innovation Management and Tourism Technologies (SEGITTUR), the project is slated to launch in the first quarter of 2026. Its goal is to energise inland tourism and re‑value local culture and island products through a strategy that reinforces the destination’s identity and authenticity for both residents and visitors. By improving the competitiveness of primary‑sector businesses and adapting them to the needs of quality tourists seeking authentic experiences, the programme aims to attract a higher‑spending clientele.

“It is a magnificent opportunity to create new tourism products and attract tourists with a high spending capacity, building on what we already have and re‑valuing the primary‑sector crafts that provide identity and authenticity,” said Marlene Figueroa.

The statement also highlighted that tourism and technology form a strong alliance for the island’s tourism excellence, helping to tackle challenges such as overcrowding in certain areas, efficient distribution of tourist flows, information management, safety, and more.

In addition to the agrotourism initiative, the Fuerteventura delegation at the London WTM announced another major development: a new direct regular flight connecting Fuerteventura with Geneva, operated by EasyJet starting this November. The route opens a promising market beyond pure tourism.

During the second day of the fair, the Tourism Board also held meetings with executives from Expedia Group, Bravo Tours, Edelweiss France, Karavel France, Jet2 UK and British Airways.
