David Herrera succeeds Enrique Cerdeña at the Central South Commonwealth

Among the actions of this union of municipalities—Antigua, Betancuria, Pájara and Tuineje—are staff training in the minors department, management of feline colonies and animal‑adoption campaigns, as well as negotiations on workplace harassment and teleworking.

This Thursday, 23 April, the mayor of Tuineje, José David Herrera Ginory, assumed the presidency of the Central‑South Intermunicipal Consortium of Fuerteventura, succeeding the mayor of Betancuria, Enrique Cerdeña Méndez.

During the new term, Tuineje will lead the consortium, which is composed of Antigua, Betancuria, Pájara and Tuineje. Herrera reaffirmed his commitment to continue the objectives already set, emphasizing the improvement of public services, especially in areas such as the minors team, the municipal kennel and the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Day Centre.

His main priorities include:

  • Strengthening communication about the services offered by the consortium.
  • Enhancing coordination among the municipalities to guarantee more effective and closer assistance to citizens.

“The mayor of Tuineje thanked the work carried out by Cerdeña during the last year, valuing his involvement and the work developed at the head of the entity,” the consortium said in a press release.

Cerdeña, in his farewell address, highlighted several initiatives undertaken during his mandate:

  • Professional training for staff working with minors.
  • Organization of workshops on the management of feline colonies and animal‑adoption campaigns.
  • Improvements to the Municipal Kennel of La Pared, including new adoption drives.
  • Advances in the transparency portal and the internal structure of the consortium.

He also underscored the creation of key negotiation tables that produced:

  • A protocol for action against workplace harassment.
  • A regulation on teleworking.
  • A catalogue of job positions aimed at reinforcing personnel and improving the consortium’s operation.

With this leadership change, the Central‑South Intermunicipal Consortium embarks on a new phase focused on continuity, service enhancement, and collaborative work among its member municipalities.
