David Herrera to become mayor of Tuieneje next Tuesday

The Majorera Assembly – Canary Coalition and the Socialist Party have agreed at the coalition table to back the mayoralty for David Herrera Ginory, councilor for Festivities and Youth, who ran in the elections with the nationalists as Candelaria Umpiérrez’s running mate.

The Majorera Assembly–Canary Coalition of Fuerteventura and the Socialist Party of Fuerteventura announced that on Wednesday a monitoring meeting of the governing pact was held at the Tuineje Town Hall, following Candelaria Umpiérrez’s resignation from the municipality’s mayoralty.

During the meeting, the executives of the Majorera Assembly–Canary Coalition and the Socialist Party agreed to maintain the governing pact under the same terms, with the aim of continuing joint work during the remaining months of the term to improve the municipality’s situation. Both the island executive of AM‑CC and that of the PSOE emphasized that the discussion took place in a climate of dialogue and understanding, free from tension, and focused on institutional responsibility and the need to redirect and strengthen municipal management.

As a result of this agreement, the mayor’s office will pass to David Herrera Ginory, who will retain his current council responsibilities. The other members of the governing group will continue to head their respective areas.

The new configuration of the Tuineje Town Hall will take effect on 10 February, during the municipal plenary session, the parties to the pact said in a statement.
