Deranged individual causes incident at White House press dinner

Multiple Shots Fired at the Entrance Arch of the Event at the Hilton Hotel in Washington

U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump had to be evacuated on Saturday from a dinner organized by the White House Correspondents’ Association after a security incident during the event, during which several gunshots were heard, as shown in the live broadcast of the ceremony.

The assailant was apprehended and, according to the FBI, was carrying a long‑gun.

President Trump later confirmed that the detainee is a resident of California and acted on his own, labeling him a “lone wolf” and a “person with serious problems.”

“A ‘crazy person’ and a ‘lone wolf.’ That’s how I would describe the suspect,” Trump said, referring to the individual who tried to breach the correspondents’ dinner and was stopped after firing at a law‑enforcement officer.

The suspect, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, 31, is reported to be a professor from California who holds a degree in mechanical engineering, according to CNN.
