Draft of the PIOF/PORN Reaches Municipalities and Opposition in the Council
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Territory Planning Department, continues to develop the new Island Planning and Natural Resources Management Plan (PIOF/PORN). Island President Lola García and Territorial Planning Councilor Nereida Calero have presented the first draft of the PIOF/PORN to the island’s municipalities and to the political groups represented in the Cabildo.
The document is being circulated to gather further input from administrations and all stakeholders involved. According to a statement from the Cabildo, the meetings also included technical staff from the Territorial Planning Council, its island director, and the drafting team.
This round of consultations follows an initial series of meetings held in June with the Cabildo’s various departments, bodies, municipalities, and other relevant administrations, as well as professional colleges of architects, building engineers and biologists, representatives of the primary, tourism and commercial sectors, and environmental associations.
“Territorial planning is one of the Cabildo’s major commitments,” emphasized President García and Councilor Calero.
The goal is to produce the draft and its strategic initial document for discussion at the Cabildo plenary in October. After that essential step, the draft will be made publicly available for citizens to review, allowing the Cabildo to continue collecting contributions from all interested parties.
