Drizzles Expected Across the North on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Change of winds to the northwest for Wednesday and a slight temperature drop for the holidays

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated the weather forecast for the Canary Islands for the coming days, with special attention to Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, when a temperature drop and drizzles are expected in the northern part of the island.

Tuesday

No significant weather phenomena are expected.

  • Cloudy skies will dominate the northern slopes of the higher‑relief islands, with clearings appearing in the afternoon and a low probability of weak, occasional rain.
  • In the other areas, the sky will be mostly clear, with occasional clouds over Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
  • The wind will blow moderately from the northeast, turning northward in the afternoon, with the possibility of stronger gusts on the northwest and southeast slopes of the mountainous islands, as well as inland on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

Wednesday, 24 December (Christmas Eve)

The forecast for Christmas Eve indicates an increase in atmospheric instability, especially from the afternoon onward. Aemet warns of very strong north‑west gusts on the peaks of Tenerife, where the wind will intensify throughout the day.

  • Cloudy intervals are expected in the northern parts of the mountainous islands, as well as over Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, while the rest of the archipelago will enjoy partly cloudy skies for most of the day.
  • By late afternoon, the sky is likely to become mostly cloudy or overcast, particularly on the north and west slopes.

Precipitation

  • Weak to moderate rain is forecast overall, but locally in northern Tenerife the rain could be strong and persistent.
  • On the southern‑facing slopes, rainfall will be lighter and less likely.
