Drowned After a Wave Hits Playa del Valle

The woman, a 44‑year‑old foreigner, fell from a rocky area and drowned despite attempts to revive her.

A 44‑year‑old woman lost her life on Friday after being rescued from the sea with signs of drowning at Playa del Valle, in the municipality of Betancuria, Fuerteventura. She appears to have fallen into the water from the rocks, according to the 1‑1‑2 Canarias emergency service.

The Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordination Center (1‑1‑2) received an alert at 14:42, reporting that beachgoers had pulled a woman out of the water who showed symptoms of drowning and was unconscious.

While emergency services were en route, beach users said they were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim.

A GES helicopter landed on the same beach, delivering rescuers to the scene. The rescuers continued the CPR maneuvers initiated by the witnesses. Later, medical personnel from the SUC confirmed that the woman remained in cardiopulmonary arrest.
