Efequén flags archaeological, environmental and agricultural damage in La Herradura
The association claims that works carried out during a bird‑protection period have harmed an archaeological site, as well as agricultural structures, crops and private property. El Efequén will file a formal complaint this week with the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether the operations were authorized, a point the Cabildo insists has been properly documented.
The Patrimonial Association El Efequén has reported damage caused by the Cabildo’s machinery in the Barranco de la Herradura (Puerto del Rosario) during an operation of the Insular Water Council (CIAF). The group announced that it will present a complaint to the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office this week, arguing that the works have harmed heritage, environmental and agricultural assets on private land. The Cabildo, however, maintains that the operation was correctly processed.
The Barranco de la Herradura contains elements protected by the Island Archaeological Charter and the Patrimonial Goods Catalog of Puerto del Rosario, a document initially approved by the municipal council that safeguards a series of values in the area. The relevant catalog entries are 016, 017 and AIF‑06, which refer to archaeological and historic‑value agricultural structures (the first two) and an area of environmental interest (the second).
