End of the “Cabildo Acts” Employment Plan after a year of school improvements

The 37 unemployed participants who have spent the past twelve months carrying out minor works in schools across the island are now leaving the program.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has concluded the “El Cabildo Actúa” Employment Plan, a twelve‑month initiative that enabled improvement and refurbishment works in a forty‑school portfolio while facilitating the labour insertion of 37 job‑seekers.

According to a statement from the island’s governing body, the project focused on minor construction, adaptation and rehabilitation of existing educational facilities, responding to the needs expressed by the schools themselves.

Implemented actions included:

  • Waterproofing and roof repairs
  • Painting and conditioning of installations, walls and façades
  • Upgrading fences and ramps to enhance accessibility

Cabildo President Lola García reported that the plan was financed with over €1 million, sourced from the Cabildo’s own budget and the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).

“We are proud of everything they have accomplished. This work has been praised by school management teams, teachers, students and families,” García said during the closing ceremony.

Employment Development Minister Nuria Cabrera announced that the program will be continued with a new edition next year, emphasizing the collaboration of municipal authorities and coordination with the Cabildo’s and the Canary Government’s education departments.

Education Councilor Adargoma Hernández highlighted that the plan is part of a joint effort between the Employment Promotion and Education areas of the corporation.

The ceremony was also attended by municipal representatives from Puerto del Rosario and Pájara, as well as councilors from both the governing coalition and the opposition.
