Endesa to Dismantle 38-Year-Old 11.7 MW Motor
The city council requires the company to grant a dismantling licence for a plant engine
Councilor Mariano Hernández Zapata confirmed this morning that “the dismantling of the first engine depends solely on the company authorization from the capital city council to start the work, and once the requirement recently raised to the energy company is resolved.”
When asked about the situation this morning by Popular Party parliamentarian Fernando Enseñat, Hernández Zapata reiterated that the dismantling of the first engine “depends solely on the company obtaining authorization from the capital city council to start the work, and once the requirement recently raised to the energy company is resolved,” the Populars explained in a statement.
The engine in question was installed in 1987. It has a maximum capacity of 11.7 MW. In addition to its removal, the plan also includes eliminating other components such as its alternator, several auxiliary systems, and an 11‑metre‑high chimney.
The El Charco plant currently operates nine diesel units totaling 96 MW, as well as two gas turbines delivering 51 MW of power.
