Endesa uncovers 36 electricity frauds in Puerto del Rosario by September
Majority of Cases Involve Illegal Connections
Endesa, through its subsidiary Redes e‑distribución, has opened a total of 796 cases of electrical fraud in the Canary Islands between January and September 2025, most of them related to illegal connections.
Although across Spain many electrical frauds are linked to marijuana plantations, inspections in the Canary Islands up to September have not uncovered any such cases, and only one incident tied to illegal crops was discovered in 2024.
The company stated in a press release that the frauds were identified during its routine inspections of the archipelago.
These inspections revealed fraudulent electricity consumption amounting to 9,210,078 kWh. Assuming an average household consumption of 3,378 kWh per year, the detected fraud corresponds to the electricity use of approximately 2,726 households.
Comparison with 2024 and Regional Breakdown
The figures also show that in the first ten months of 2025 more fraud cases have been detected than in the entire year of 2024, which closed with a total of 710 opened cases.
