Excitement and camaraderie at the 2025 Neuromajo Island Championship final with nearly 300 participants
The Pozo Negro Experimental Farm became this weekend the epicenter of senior sport with the celebration of the grand final of the 2025 Neuromajo Island Championship, an event that gathered nearly 300 seniors from across Fuerteventura in an atmosphere of excitement, participation, and fellowship.
After the inaugural parade held last Friday in Corralejo, teams competed on Saturday and Sunday in four events that tested both physical skill and mental agility: Relays, Canary Hoop, Numbers and Letters, and Letter Race.
The competition results crowned the following teams as island champions:
- Amigos de Pájara – 1st place
- Las Apañás (Puerto del Rosario) – 2nd place
- Las Elegidas (Antigua) – 3rd place
- Camellito (Tuineje) – 4th place
These four squads will represent Fuerteventura in the regional final scheduled for December in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria.
The medals were presented by the President of the Island Council, Lola García, the Social Action councilor Víctor Alonso, and the mayors of Pájara, Tuineje, Betancuria, and Antigua, together with councilors and municipal representatives from across the island.
The Neuromajo Championship is a project driven by the Fuerteventura Island Council, in collaboration with the six municipalities and the Neurolympic Association, aimed at promoting active aging, socialization, and the well‑being of seniors. This edition also received support from Padilla Supermercados Spar.
The organizers thanked the involvement of participants, monitors, and collaborating entities, and announced that a third edition is already being prepared. Its presentation will take place in Caleta de Fuste (Ant) and the event itself will be held in the municipality of Tuineje, featuring new tests and challenges.
