Fire on Guachinerfe Street
The incident required the fire brigade to be called and the evacuation of a café and the nearby municipal offices.
A fire broke out early this morning in the popular Guachinerfe alley of the old Puerto Cabras district, forcing the evacuation of a nearby café and the municipal workers occupying adjacent offices.
A residential property was ablaze for reasons that are still unknown, but the swift response of police forces and firefighters prevented the situation from worsening.
Employees of the neighboring café had to remove some utensils, and at one point there was concern that the flames might reach the kitchen, where butane gas cylinders were stored.
The building is located opposite the former Hotel Valerón on the capital’s seaside avenue; it also housed the Tourism Board offices until a few months ago.
