Five New EV Charging Stations Now Open

After awarding Repsol the installation of fifteen charging points in February, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura announced the launch of the first five, spread across three municipalities.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has put into service the inaugural five public electric‑vehicle (EV) charging points, part of a broader project to install 15 chargers of 22 kW throughout the island. The initiative is financed by Next Generation EU funds and was awarded to Repsol Comercializadora de Productos Petrolíferos S.A. for a total cost of €213,570.17.

“This represents a significant step forward for sustainable mobility on the island, making it practical and safe for both residents and visitors to choose electric transport,” said Lola García, the island’s president.

“The project reinforces Fuerteventura’s commitment to the energy transition, modernising the charging infrastructure while reducing our carbon footprint and fostering a cleaner, more efficient mobility model,” added Lolina Negrín Pérez, the councilor for Industry.

The operational points are located at:

  • Puerto del Rosario – C/ Doctor Fleming, 6
  • Pájara – C/ Nuestra Señora de la Regla, 5
  • La Oliva municipality – C/ Juan Cabrera Méndez (La Oliva), C/ La Cancela (Lajares) and C/ La Arena (Corralejo)

Each charger can service two vehicles simultaneously.

The remaining sites, which will complete the planned network of fifteen, are currently in advanced stages of administrative approval and electrical connection. New installations are slated for Pájara, Betancuria, and Puerto del Rosario in the coming weeks, while Tuineje and Antigua are experiencing minor delays due to municipal licensing.

The Cabildo emphasizes that this infrastructure marks a milestone in the island’s decarbonisation of mobility and pledges to keep the public informed as the rest of the public chargers come online.

Background of the Award

The charging‑point installation forms part of the contract awarded in February to Repsol Comercializadora de Productos Petrolíferos S.A., valued at €213,570.17. As reported by Fuerteventura Digital, the tender covered the deployment of 15 charging points across various municipalities, financed by Next Generation EU resources.
