Fuerteventura Airport Expands Operating Hours Starting Nov. 1
It will have the option to extend its operating hours, upon request required by an operator, an additional hour until 00:00.
Airports in La Palma and Fuerteventura will modify and extend their operating schedules starting this Saturday, 1 November. In both cases, the new hours will be from 07:00 to 23:00.
Aena announced the change in a statement, emphasizing that it has been adopted to meet airlines’ operational demand and to provide greater flexibility in flight scheduling.
- In La Palma, the start of operations will be moved forward by one hour, and the closing time will be delayed by one and a half hours.
- In Fuerteventura, an extra half‑hour will be added to the end of the day.
Both airports will also retain the option to prolong their operating hours, upon a PPR (Prior Permission Request) from an operator, for an additional hour until midnight.
The airport manager clarified that this possibility allows previously scheduled commercial flights that have experienced delays to operate beyond the usual closing time to unforeseen circumstances, such as operational incidents or adverse weather conditions.
Aena stressed that the measure is implemented after a process that begins with a request from at least one airline, which must justify its proposal with a firm schedule of additional flights during the extended period. The procedure requires a detailed prior study of technical and financial feasibility, taking into account the perspective of all parties, including inter‑island connectivity.
Once the proposal is examined and relevant consultations are carried out with all interested groups, the schedule is adjusted along with the resources allocated to meet the new programming needs.
Finally, the involved collectives and agencies, which were previously consulted for the technical feasibility study, have already been informed.
