Fuerteventura approves over €4 million for businesses, farming and island projects
The Cabildo approved funds on 30 October for recruitment grants, graduate work placements, farming and fishing projects, and tourism promotion.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura approved more than €4 million in funding on 30 October 2026. The money comes from funds left in the budget. It will support island businesses, farming, fishing and other priorities.
The package includes more aid to recruit staff and funds for work placements. It also supports fishing guilds, local crop varieties and tourism promotion. The report gives no application dates. It also gives no details of how businesses and individuals can access the support.
Recruitment support and work placements
An extra €250,000 will go towards recruitment grants from the Cabildo’s Economic Promotion department. The aim is to reach more businesses across Fuerteventura and help people find work.
A further €404,394.50 will fund a joint agreement with Fundación Universitaria de Las Palmas (FULP). It will support work placements in Fuerteventura businesses. These are for people with university degrees or vocational qualifications.
The New Technologies department is also providing €45,211.94 to the association OMOTENSHI for the ‘FTV Gamer Fest’ project. These schemes form part of FDCAN Fuerteventura 2023–2027.
Support for farming, fishing and local varieties
The Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries department’s funding includes a direct grant to the council that oversees DOP Queso Majorero. This is a protected designation of origin. The source does not state the grant’s value.
Each of the island’s fishing guilds will receive €20,000 towards running costs.
Another €15,000 will fund a plan to find the island’s native crop varieties and map where they grew in the past. This is described as the first phase of a wider Cabildo seed bank project.
Funds will also help people who work in farming and fishing attend the XV Foro Nacional Caprino and World Cheese Awards 2026.
Tourism promotion
The tourism board is providing €70,000 for tourism promotion. This covers the Kite Festival in La Oliva and work by the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber’s work will promote the island in domestic and overseas markets. The report does not say how the funds will be split between the two.
